Idle is where the spirit of Agnes Bakery grows up, stretches out, and settles into a space of its own. Housed in a striking, light-filled corner of New Farm, Idle combines the warmth of a neighbourhood bakery with the generosity of a short-order kitchen and the utility of a well-stocked pantry. Expect the same sourdough loaves, sweet and savoury pastries, and whole cakes that built the original cult following. Everything is still made by hand, still fresh each morning, still best with coffee in hand.
But now, there’s more.
Mornings might mean sourdough crumpets with house preserves, Turkish eggs with Aleppo pepper, or a Euro Plate of prosciutto cotto and soft-boiled eggs. By lunchtime, the menu expands: charcoal rotisserie chicken in rotating bastes from harissa to Jamaican jerk, paired with seasonal grain salads, open-face sandwiches and crisp-edged burgers.
For those passing through, Idle’s pantry shelves are loaded with house-made condiments (think gentleman’s relish, toum, and smoked labneh), pantry favourites, small-batch spirits, and bottles from the Anyday cellar. Dine in, take away, stock up or slow down, Idle is a place to return to, any day.
