hôntô is inspired by contemporary Japanese cuisine and dining culture. On the menu, you’ll find interpretation of classic Japanese dishes with seasonal flourishes, always prioritising local ingredients. Diners can encircle our beautiful “Raw Bar” and watch the talented team flaunt their knife work, or they can slink behind the “shou sugi ban”* treated table by the other, larger open kitchen. As with all of our restaurants, we encourage shared dining in order to see the full scope of the menu.

The style of food is delicate and thoughtful, so naturally the beverage list echoes this sentiment. Amidst wines, beer and cocktails you’ll find many bottles of rare and unusual Japanese Whiskey and Sake. ôô is our bar set aside from the main dining space, where diners can enjoy an aperitif whilst they wait for their table, or a digestif afterwards.

* “shou sugi ban” is a Japanese technique to darken wood using fire that we used on the walls and most of the hard surfaces. It was a key feature of the restaurant’s design and atmosphere.

The beverage list echoes this sentiment at hôntô where we are looking to uplift and celebrate Japanese food. Amidst wines, beer and cocktails you’ll find many bottles of rare and unusual Japanese Whiskey and Sake. In fact, our collection of Japanese whiskey is one of the largest in the Southern Hemisphere, and the sake collection grows each day.

Inside the venue is ôô, our moody bar set aside from the main dining space, where diners can enjoy an aperitif whilst they wait for their table, or a digestif afterwards. It’s the perfect space to have a snack or a dessert, whilst you make your way through the drinks list.

Hire hôntô exclusively for a sit down lunch or dinner. You can have up to 110 of your own guests in our thoughtful space. Rather something more intimate? Host your next event hidden away in our dark and moody cocktail bar, ôô. We can accommodate 40 people standing up or 32 people seated in this space.

Our menu reimagines Japanese cooking with contemporary nuance and local ingredients. On the menu you will find our interpretation of classic Japanese dishes plus some new favourites to boot. Best enjoyed shared so bring friends and family to enjoy!

Good food and good booze go very much in hand. So, amongst the usual suspects of wine, beer and cocktails you’ll find a bunch of rare and unusual Japanese Whiskey and Sake. Our attentive team is on hand to make some magical matches with your menu choices.

Our dark, moody space is tucked away in the gritty end of the Valley. It is made up of a little bar, called ôô, alongside a raw dining bar and main dining room. Expect to sit alongside friends new and old.
